Contemporary Finnish folk music group Värttinä is coming to London!
Värttinä’s roots are in Finland’s Karelia region, featuring women’s vocal traditions and ancient runo poems.
The trio writes much of its own material, based on traditional styles, but with innovative modern arrangements. The UK premiere of their new album Viena is inspired by the remote territory of Viena Karelia (on the Russian side) and its runo singers. Värttinä sings powerful songs about legend, landscape and ancestral lore.
Venue: Kings Place, 90 York Way, London N1 9AG
