Wiltshire: Music at Dauntsey Park
Set in the stunning surroundings of the 10th century church of St. James the Great at Dauntsey, Vivaldi's much-loved Four Seasons is presented in a unique collective style. In place of a single soloist, four upper strings, Andres Kaljuste together with equally-thrilling artists Minna Pensola, Maria Włoszczowska and Antti Tikkanen will each tackle one concerto, sharing the orchestral parts during the other Seasons to form a kind of 'Vivaldi relay'. Such team-work is only made possible through Andres and Antti's highly-skilled versatility; each will play viola at some point during the set as well as one concerto apiece on violin.
It will be matched in this joint initiative by the truly excellent Rebecca Gilliver, principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra, with support from Sophia Rahman on harpsichord and Jani Pensola on double bass.
The programme is inspired by Vivaldi's masterpiece after Minna's ground-breaking performance of it from Turku, which can still be viewed online at http://www.tfo.fi/en/node/1589
The Classical evening will conclude with that most intimate and friendly of pieces, Schubert's Trout Quintet, featuring Jani Pensola (another member of the London Symphony Orchestra) on double bass.
