Finnish Saturday Schools

What are the Suomi Schools (also called the Finnish Saturday Schools)?
The first Finnish Saturday School in the United Kingdom was established in London in 1972 at the instigation of the Finnish Church Guild.

  • The purpose of Suomi-Schools is to advance education in the Finnish language, Finnish affairs, history and culture.
  • The schools promote bilingualism within British-Finnish families.
  • Children are normally taught in groups divided according to age (from ca. 3 to 16). Some schools also have toddlers' groups.
  • Usually lessons take place every other Saturday during term times.
  • Finnish classes are available also to adult students.
  • Currently there are 17 Suomi Schools operating in the United Kingdom and well over hundred of them world-wide. The schools receive financial support from the Finnish Department of Education.

Finnish Saturday School in Croydon

Finnish Saturday School in London
(established in 1972)

Time:

Children's morning groups and adult groups 10-12.

Finnish Saturday School in Oxford
(established in 1988)

School dates for the spring term 2013:

12.1, 26.1, 16.2, 2.3, 16.3, 13.4, 27.4, 11.5, 25.5, 8.6.

Location:

Lessons are held every other Saturday between 10am - 12noon at St Clare's College, 18 Bardwell Road, Oxford.
There is free and easy parking at the school.

(established in 1995)

Is it important for you that your child learns Finnish language and culture in safe and supportive learning environment? Do you want Finnish friends for your child? Our answer for you is - The Finnish school in York!

The Finnish Sunday school in York is small and active school, established in 1995. We gather to learn Finnish language and culture every other Sunday during the school semesters.

School dates for the spring term 2013: 3.3, 17.3, 14.4, 12.5 (Mother's Day church), 9.6.

Location:

Bubwith Leisure Centre, Yorkshire.

Our location near M62 makes easier you to get to our school. Distances: Bubwithiin: York 30 min, Leeds 40 min, Doncaster 40 min, Hull 50 min and Grimsby 60 min.

Classes:

We have two learning groups:

- small children group for 2-6 years-old children

- school group for 7-1-years-old children
