London: Free concert by Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha

Sunday, July 3, 2016 - 21:45

Jaakko Laitinen & Väärä Raha was founded by five Laplanders living in Helsinki in 2009. Their music is a unique mix of ingredients marinated in many sauces, with strong flavours of Balkan Roma grooves, Russian romances and traditional Finnish tango and humppa. Laitinen's vocals are accompanied by trumpet, bouzouki, accordion, double bass and drums. Together with the band Laitinen writes songs about life and its elements. Their playlist is 99% made up of the band's own compositions with Laitinen's lyrics telling about love and its bitter beauty, the mortal nature of human life, the deceptive glow of memories, the swaying earthly happiness and the inexorable vanity of our ambitions. Joy intertwines with sorrow in the rhythms and melodies, just like in life itself.
